Good morning, Svea!

To be honest, I'm not yet totally woken when we're driving little bit before 7 am to work. But one morning I woke up quickly, when we saw a white fellow coming towards us and the town.

We got another exciting experiment when we found a nice spider on a container. Can't believe that big guy is living permanently in Svalbard! He must have got an involuntary lift from the mainland up here with a boat. I can't really say that lucky guy...

Condolences also from Svea

We're sorry for them who got somehow involved with 22/7.

White on the fjord

The fjord got filled with drift ice.
On the other side of the fjord in Hiorthamn had a polar bear good time. It looked like he was eating a bloody dinner.

"Topptrimmen"

There wouldn't needed to be an excuse for to go to a trip, but Topptrimmen is actually giving a nice one. There is placed 12 boxes on mountains around Longyearbyen with a book inside, where you can write your name on. When you have visited ten tops, you can participate a lottery and win a tour to Ny-Ålesund. That is an attractive price, but the tops are nice to visit even without any price. We need to take the dogs out anyhow for a walk, so Topptrimmen is just then giving a goal for us to go.

Hope for Halloween?

As the maximum weight was said to be around 800 grams, I guess it won't be a impressive Halloween decoration.
Production of male-flowers is good, even though I would like to have more females. For addition for small amount of female-flowers I have been unsuccessful with pollination and therefore lost the change. But there is anyhow some gain for growing: Males are tasting specially good fried with cheese and blue cheese filling.
Got to taste first handful of cherry tomatoes!

Utøya

I guess I don't need to explain that... Just can't understand why it needed to happen!

Champagneglass

Do you see on the mountain a snow field which looks like a wine glass? When a stalk for that gets broken, then we have "officially" summer in Longyearbyen.

Svea

It's getting quiet in Svea. Most of the people are on their summer holidays. There isn't that many people left in the mine, but otherwise it's still pretty busy. And we're anyhow busy with our work :)

Girls having a cabin weekend

My partner wanted to feel a real summer and hear the birds which don't just scream. So I was left alone to Svalbard. But that wasn't not actually that's bad: We girls packed our backpacks and dogs and walked to a cabin and spend a weekend there.

Rivers we're crossing might not be that big, but they can be surprisingly strong. Anyhow, it's not nice to walk with wet boots.
Tundra is now really beautiful with it's flowers.
I get always so impressed how little a human being is middle of the mountains.
I'm not sure were the dog more interested in the reindeers or reindeers interested in a dog.
She's having a really good camouflage.

It's a free week again!

I'm at home again!

My garden has grown enormously while I was in Svea. I like my courtains made of leaves.
All of these are male-flowers. I froze them and later they will end up on the frying pan.
The vegetation start to be so thick that I'm little bit worried if my tomatoes can get enough light.
Just some of my beans survived my first week in Svea, so harvest won't be really impressive. Also, those who survived the first week, have got burned by sun later. Will try next year with better luck again...

When I landed in Longyearbyen, I got a message from my friend that she has made ready food for us for a trip and dogs are already waiting forward for a trip to Sarkofagen. So, I just went home and change my clothes and so I was ready for a mountain trip. It was nice welcoming home!

A week in Svea

Ice is gone from van Mijdenfjorden. It meant we took kayaks out from the storage and had a little try with them on the laguna.
We also got the first supply boat for the season.
One evening we loaned bicycles and had a little trip to Kapp Amsterdam.
There is enough to do for also those people who don't mind so much sporty activities.  Now it's good time to make a service for your scooters. Then they are ready for next season.
I didn't ask why there were a reindeer skin on the table...
I got little bit impressed of those tubes at the power plant.

Dogs and tomatoes

Recipe for happy life is pretty simple: You need dogs and tomatoes, spice them as you wish with other things you like. Shake them well together and enjoy with good friends.
A dogsledgetour in the middle of the town.
For polar dogs summertime is little bit too warm for running.
Reindeers aren't having any predators here and they are very tame. Even though we were having dogs with us they came to curiously have a look who we were.

Taking dogs out for a walk is an nice excuse for have a trip.
Our orange beauties - pumpkin flowers.
Tomatoes are also enjoying summer with 24 hours light.
We still see outside, so nothing to complain.
