1000 km southward - Tromsø

To take a 1000 km tour southward can sound like a pretty long trip, but actually we "just" end up to Tromsø then. But Tromsø is a really nice town and for a small week trip it's an easy access. Just about 1,5 hours flight and we're almost middle of the town.

Our hairy companion was following us - of course. He needs to be traveling inside cargo. For sure he doesn't think that's the best thing, but he accepts that because that's the way how he can follow us. He takes his tail between his legs but jumps voluntarily up in his own cage. He is already an experienced traveller and really easy to have with.



Tromsø is a nice town with great surrounding. We had a really cosy week nearby Tromsø.

We couldn't avoid polar bears even in Tromsø. Luckily these ones were peaceful.

Way to home

One week at work is over again and we sit ready in Dornier-228.

 

Pilots are doing good work. We can see them on the cockpit.

 

Hello Longyearbyen - We are almost there!

Welcome back!

Just guess what's making that beautiful colouring on the mountains - the sun is finally over the horizon! I haven't seen it yet, it's still behind the mountains, but just that pink colour on the mountains is making me so happy.

Hello neighbours

We had a little trip to Barentsburg, our Russian neighbourtown.

During this trip we didn't get so many pink cloud - in stead clouds were dramatically dark.

I think the school in Barentsburg is painted fantastically.

It's a real piece of art.

There has been done lot of renovations in the town with fixing and painting the houses.

Time for twilight tours

During last week off we were having nice tours around. Even though the sun was still under the horizon, there was enough light for to have a "day light" tour with scooters. It felt so nice to drive out again after the dark season and to see mountains around.

Pink clouds are giving a promise that we get soon the sun back.

The waxing crescent moon is mystically hiding behind the clouds.

Twilight isn't that long and on the way home it was starting to get dark again.

The town with it lights looks welcoming.

Go out and drive!

The safety is always a big issue with beeing out in Svalbard. Even for short trips you need to properly prepared. Students at Unis (University Centre in Svalbard) get always a week safety course before they start their studies. For youth at the town it's organised a happening "Ut og Kjør!", where they go through about safety around driving with snow scooters.

It's Super Puma. Youth got a rescue demonstration by helicopter and got to visit in the helicopter.

Lights of the night

The first thing when I coming back to town is to take our dog out. He gets always so extremly happy when I'm back that it's good to take him out then and start our week together so.

Even a little walk around the town can be a really beautiful experience.

Lovely light

Even though I have been mostly working inside last week, it has been nice just to know that days are getting lighter and longer. The sun is still under the horizon but after the dark season twilight is feeling already like proper light.

It hadn't got yet dark when I went to the airport after the work week.

On the way home I was able to see beautiful red horizon. The sun isn't that far away anymore!
